If Fox’s plans for the final Wolverine movie prove to be true, Wolvie may finally be free to cause some unrestrained havoc thanks to an R rating. Last year’s teaser image for the film, featured at San Deigo Comic-Con, gave us our first hopeful hint that Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold were headed in this direction; showcasing Wolverine with his middle claw extended in a pretty specific gesture. THR had inside sources spill that Wolverine 3 had been set for an R rating since the beginning, due to the language and violence in Michael Green’s script. Deadpool‘s R-rated box office domination, they say, was not taken into consideration as a deciding factor. The rumor is that the movie, which starts shooting this month, is based on the Old Man Logan comic series by Mark Millar. Here’s the series’ plot description:
Nobody knows what happened on the night the heroes fell. All we know is that they disappeared and evil triumphed and the bad guys have been calling the shots ever since. What happened to Wolverine is the biggest mystery of all. For 50 years, no one has heard hide nor hair from him…and in his place stands anold man called Logan. A man concerned only about his family. A man pushed to the brink by the HULK GANG. A man forced to help an old friend–the blind archer, HAWKEYE–drive three thousand miles to secure his family’s safety.
Another rumor is that it will be Patrick Stewart‘s Charles Xavier in the passenger seat rather than Hawkeye; but we’ll have to wait until Wolverine 3 is scheduled to hit theaters- March 3, 2017- to know for sure!
