Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Grant Ward is one complicated guy. You loved him in the first season. Then you hated him in the second season. Now in the third season, it’s a bit of both. When audiences last saw Grant, unfortunate things happened to him, but he seemed to turn out okay. Well, not okay as he planned, but at least he’s around and moving. And now that the mid-season premiere is almost here, Grant is going to be around a lot more. Today, producers for the show confirmed that Grant will be taking on a bigger role in Hydra, and it’s one that comic book fans should enjoy.
Fans of the Secret Warriors story line will be familiar with the new version of Grant Ward. As it turns out, Grant will be taking on the new form of the Hive. The short story about Hive is that he was a Hydra experiment that has the ability to animate and control dead bodies. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Hive, here is a worderful high school photo of what it looks like when it’s not inside a host body.
So, while it was confirmed that Grant will be Hive, it won’t be a perfect recreation of the villain from the comics. According to Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, the Hive “‘is going to have its own unique twist and be very different from what fans have seen so far,’ it will also have ‘similarities that pay homage to the original character.'”
