No universe is complete without stars, especially the Marvel Cinematic one. With so many different characters, it feels like every actor on the planet has done at least one comic book movie. This is especially the case with the Marvel Cinematic Universe; it features so many A-list actors that it’s practically impossible to count them all. In 2015 alone, we’ve seen the likes of James Spader, Paul Rudd, Michael Peña, Evangeline Lilly and even Micahel Douglas make their Marvel movie debuts. Moreover, with Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman’s characters coming to theaters this year, it seems like the stars just keep on coming. As if that didn’t seem like enough big names to put on the posters, another huge name is suspected to join the billion-dollar franchise.
The New York Daily News has recently released an exclusive story hinting that Sylvester Stallone may be a secret cast member of Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The news source published the folowing photo of Sylvester Stallone leaving a hotel in Atlanta, GA with what appears to be a script in his hand.
According to Daily News reporter Jacqueline Cutler, the hotel Stallone was leaving was the same one where the rest of Guardians’ cast was staying. Stallone additionally took off in a car usually assigned to Chris Pratt, who of course is set to reprise his roll as Star Lord. The Daily News reported that:
“Sylvester Stallone was caught on camera Friday heading to the set of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.'”
However, it was later admitted in the story that Stallone’s appearance in the film was unconfirmed and likely just a cameo. The suggestion that he was indeed heading to the film’s set was a conclusion that the newspaper made based on the supposed evidence.
While the thought of Sylvester Stallone making a triumphant return to the superhero genre sounds amazing on paper, the Daily News isn’t exactly a reliable source. Anybody who has seen the paper at their local grocery store would know that the front pages are often sensationalist and more resembling of a tabloid than a reliable news source. In 2014, the newspaper was also under fire for listing the graphic details of Robin Williams’ suicide on the front page. It could be possible that the newspaper is just baiting for readers with unconfirmed evidence.
However, if the Daily News’ story is true, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be a great way for Stallone to join the MCU. Stallone’s likability and sheer acting skill will make him a great fit for an off-the-wall series like GotG. Perhaps he will be the mystery actor playing Peter Quill’s father. How awesome would that be?
