We know that when it comes to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, that Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper will be back as Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket respectively. We also know that Michael Rooker will return as Yondu, that Karen Gillan will be looking for a new fight as Nebula, and that Glenn Close will class the place up as Nova Prime. Although sadly Benicio del Toro won’t be as the Collector, we are now getting word that a member of the Collector’s menagerie will appear in an encore in the Guardians sequel. Spoilers may follow…
A website called On Location Vacations, reported that Sylvester Stallone was spotted around Pinewood Studios Atlanta, homebase for principal photography for GOTG2. Stallone’s appearance has been rumored though not officially confirmed, but it seems that rumor is now skirting dangerously close to fact with the anonymous tipster adding that, “His costume looks a lot like Judge Dredd.” Of course, Stallone starred in the much maligned 1995 film version of Judge Dredd. Hey, you know who else had a horrible comic book movie made about them in the 80s/90s? Howard the Duck! Interesting side note then:
In addition to the Sly Stallone scoop, our tipster said there was also a scene shot last week that involved Howard the Duck, confirming the speculation that he may appear in GOTG2.
Howard the Duck, of course, appeared in the bonus scene at the end of the first Guardians of the Galaxy, but it seems that he might have a bigger role, or at least a bigger scene, in GOTG2. Even that small bit at the end of the first Guardians was a big deal because of the persistent stink that still emanates from the 1986 William Huyck movie Howard the Duck, which still stands as an example of how far both comic book movies and George Lucas can fall. Clearly director James Gunn is trying to reclaim the character, especially since there was more excitement over five seconds of Howard in Guardians immediately after its release than at any point in the last 30 years. Still this is a rumor, and there’s been no confirmation that Howard, or his voice Seth Green, are set to return. We’ll keep you posted though.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be in theaters everywhere on May 5, 2017
