Soon after the second Captain America: Civil War trailer hit the Internet like a ton of bricks yesterday, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn praised the film on Twitter. Fans began asking Gunn for his thoughts on the trailer and specifically what he thought of Spider-Man’s appearance in the trailer. Gunn didn’t disappoint, and practically gushed with praise for Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man.static1.squarespace.com

Here’s the tweet that got the ball rolling:

Then in response to a fan question Gunn said this about Tom Holland:

Gunn followed up that tweet saying:

Now that is some high praise. Gunn is known to just lay it out there when it comes to Marvel movies and just about anything else really. According to Gunn:

Just like his Mom taught him, If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything. So, until James Gunn is strangely silent about a movie we can rest easy.

So Gunn has seen a lot more than just the trailers because no one could make the jump from that short trailer appearance of Spider-Man to what Gunn is saying in comparing Holland’s Spider-Man to Downey Jr’s Tony Stark. If Holland is delivering that level of performance, all anyone can say is bring it on! With the next Sony Spider-Man solo movie being guided by Marvel Studios we can expect some serious Spider-Man and Peter Parker action.

While this NerdBastard still isn’t quite sold on John Francis Daley (Horrible Bosses, Vacation) writing the screenplay, director Jon Watts (Cop Car, Clown) is an interesting choice to relaunch a much younger Spider-man to the big screen.
