When you’re as big as Marvel Studios, you just attract this kind of talent. Robert Redford appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Alexander Pierce, Michael Douglas co-starred in Ant-Man as Hank Pym, and the latest stunning bit of casting is the rumored Sylvester Stallone appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Stallone’s role is so secret, he hasn’t been officially confirmed to appear in the film yet, but as revealed here yesterday, he has been spotted on set at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta. So who might Stallone be playing and how big is the role going to end up being? Prepare for supposition and half-answers!
According to Heroic Hollywood, Stallone will appear in GOTG 2 as one of the Ravagers, the rogue group of space pirates led by Yondu (Michael Rooker). Umberto Gonzalez offered no other details about the role like names and stuff saying that it would “spoiler territory” to reveal more. That implies that Stallone’s role is no mere cameo and may be consequential to the plot of Guardians, whatever that might be. Yesterday, we posted a rumor about Stallone in Guardians, a set spy who said that they had seen Stallone around the set and “His costume looks a lot like Judge Dredd.” If Stallone is playing a Ravager, then that sounds about right, but it would be curious if it turns out that Stallone will be wearing a face-covering helmet the whole time in Guardians.
Obviously, we’ll have more details about Stallone and everybody in Guardians of the Galaxy when they become available.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be in theaters everywhere on May 5, 2017.
