Re-shoots have become a pretty common theme in Hollywood. Maybe something didn’t quite work right, an effect went wrong or maybe just a few more scenes were needed to drive the narrative. Hell, Marvel even works in re-shoots into their schedule ahead of time, but what does it mean when you bring in a whole new actor to play a character that wasn’t in the movie in the first place. That is where Star Trek Beyond finds itself as re-shoots begin for the 3rd in the rebooted franchise.
Deadline is reporting that Oscar nominated actress Shohreh Aghdashloo is suddenly joining the cast of the newest Star Trek Movie. Aghdashloo will be playing the role of the High Command of the Federation. Despite this major re-shoot, the film is still slated to hit theaters on July 22nd.
Shohreh Aghdashloo happens to be the first Iranian woman to win an Emmy, which she took home in 2009 for House of Saddam. She will also be back for The Expanse Season 2, which beings shooting next month in Toronto. Nothing is yet known just what her character will do in the movie, but the addition of an entirely new character being played by an actress of Aghdashloo’s caliber could be bad news for fans of the Trek universe. It wasn’t so long ago that Simon Pegg took to the internet to defend the teaser for Beyond saying that the the footage we saw did not reflect the tone of the movie, and that it is more Trek than action flick this time around.
But what do you think? Does this news make you want to keep your 15 bucks or do you still hold out hope for the new Trek? Let us know in the comments below!
