When word first started going around that Carrie Fisher‘s daughter, Billie Lourd, would appear in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first conclusion that was jumped to was that she would portray a younger version of Fischer’s character Princess Leia. Lourd was quick to squash those rumors, and the movie revealed her role to be that of young Lieutenant Connix, who serves the resistance under the leadership of General Leia. Lourd only had one speaking line the whole movie, but she says that won’t be the case the next time around when she returns as Lieutenant Connix for Star Wars: Episode VIII.
In an interview with Playfest, Lourd didn’t say too much about just how much more screen time her character would be getting, only that it would undoubtedly be more than last time.
“Oh yeah, yeah. The last one was a little Where’s Waldo-y.”
When asked if any of that screen time would include more scenes with her and Leia, her answer was a short but sweet “Maybe.”
Leia is a very hands-on leader, so if Lieutenant Connix does become a more important member of the resistance, it would seem most likely that Fischer and Lourd would have scenes together. We’ll just have to wait and see!
