‘Lemony Snicket’ Star Joins ‘American Gods’ Cast, Author Neil Gaiman Suggests Other Potential Castmates
Development on the new American Gods series continues at a brisk pace with the announcement of new cast member Emily Browning. She will portray Laura Moon, the wife of Shadow Moon. Shadow is a former prison inmate and current bodyguard to Mr. Wednesday, an elder god whiling away his time as a con artist.
Browning joins Ian McShane and Ricky Whittle on the production, set to begin shooting in April for the Starz cable channel.
Neil Gaiman, author of the original book, was pleased with the casting.
“I’ve been fascinated by Emily Browning since A Series of Unfortunate Events,” said Gaiman. “She has a challenge ahead of her: Laura is a tricky character, and the Laura on the screen is even trickier and more dangerous than the one on the page. She’s going to have a wonderful time bringing Laura to life.”
After the news hit Twitter, one of Gaiman’s followers suggested other casting ideas, such as veteran actors Bob Newhart or Dick Van Dyke for Hinzelmann, a colorful local with a gift for tall tales in the quiet town of Lakeside. Gaiman responded with “Good suggestions here,” as he retweeted the ideas to showrunner Bryan Fuller.
