The Hero For Hire isn’t exactly a newcomer to the Marvel Netflix Universe, what with him already having made waves on his guest appearances both in Jessica Jones and Daredevil. The toughest man of Hell’s Kitchen is finally confirmed to be getting his own show, if the newest spoiler-free teaser is anything to go by…
Unfortunately, the new teaser is only readily available to nerds with Netflix accounts, so the rest of us have to settle for a shootout gif. We will however, put up the video as soon as it becomes embedable, so you will have to take our word when it comes to the specifics:
The teaser opens with Luke Cage (played by Mike Colter) walking into a Hell’s Kitchen gym like he owns the place. judging by the impression of the place that Marvel has etched into our brains over the years, we are guessing that this is an illegal gymnasium and that the equipment is filled with drugs. A bunch of goons see Cage and immediately proceed to take out their high-caliber automatic rifles (legally purchased and liscenced, ironically) and empty their magazines into Cage and his surroundings. Seeing how the Power Man has pretty much taught himself to bench-press 25 tons of steel in the mean streets of Harlem, he shakes it off and the quips
“I’m about sick of always having to buy new clothes”
Before throwing one of those guys out of a plate glass window. So far, so good. Netflix knows how to present a working class superhuman and we’re more than glad to have him, especially given how Daredevil, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones are the closest thing we’ll ever come to getting an R-Rated experience in the MCU. But credit where it’s due, the logo simply screams 80’s comic book action all the way.
Luke Cage will start airing on September 30th.
