Oh the 80’s. The age of excess, cocaine and weird horror. And very few movies just shout 80’s more than the beloved Killer Klowns From Outer Space! After years and years of whispers and rumors of a potential sequel to the horror comedy classic, it seems that there is finally some movement but this time on TV. Yes, the Killer Klowns will be returning to a big top near you, and with the original director at the helm.
The original Killer Klowns From Outer Space has become a cult classic in the last 20 years and the Chiodo Brothers have been trying off and on to get a sequel moving, but now that show like Ash Vs. Evil Dead are showing that there is a place for that kind of comedy and violence, it seems like now is the time to really push the franchise. Chiodo himself had this to say about the show’s development.
“Right now, we are currently pursuing a long arch series for cable. We wondered, should we do a sequel to the first one or do we do a remake? We came up with a ‘requel’ – it’s a sequel and a remake. We’ve been developing this for a while. It’s a trilogy in four parts, and it really follows the continuing adventures of new people who are experiencing this phenomenon of a Klown invasion, and once in a while you see some of the old guys pop up and hear their stories – find out what happened over the last 25 years. It’s fucking great”
While that may not provide a whole lot of information, at least we know there is forward movement on the franchise, and hell, we could use a laugh or two at the seriousness of the genre right about now. No word yet if any network is interested in the property, but it would work well on a station like AMC or maybe Showtime. So if you want to see the Klowns back in action, take to the forums and the chat sites and let it be known that the big top is back in town!
