After a three week break, the Legends of Tomorrow return this Thursday with more time travel adventures as Rip Hunter and the gang work to undo the centuries-spanning evil of Vandal Savage. When we left the Legends, some of them were stuck in the not-so-idyllic 1950s while the others disappeared back into the time stream on the Waverider, and what happened to Heatwave was never really explained… But now, in the back half of the season, things seem to be really heating up (so to speak). This new trailer for the show reveals old faces, younger faces of beloved characters, and the beat up face of the man called Jonah Hex.

Although this trailer is technically for the back-half of season one, it is rather heavy on the Jonah Hex, who will appear in the series 11th episode, “The Magnificent Eight” played by Johnathon Schaech. He’s the first major DC Comics character not previously introduced in the Arrowverse to appear on Legends. (Connor Hawke doesn’t count.) The official synopsis:

DC COMICS’ JONAH HEX MEETS THE TEAM – When the team needs a place to hide out, Rip (Arthur Darvill) sets a course for the Old West. Upon arrival, they start a fight with a gang of outlaws, putting the small town in jeopardy. Luckily, an old friend of Rip’s, Jonah Hex (guest star Johnathon Schaech), steps in to save them. Thor Freudenthal directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Marc Guggenheim and teleplay by Marc Guggenheim.

Now let’s roll the trailer, which will not only feature Hex, but will also feature another Old West legend, or at least an imposter selling himself as a certain legend of Hollywood’s Old West.

So coming up we’re not just getting Hex, but Felicity, Nanda Parbat, Ra’s al Ghul, Quentin Lance, and Talia al Ghul. All that, plus a Giant Atom? Interesting. And with Legends of Tomorrow already approved for a second season, maybe we’ll see the show loosen up and have some fun with the concept.

Legends of Tomorrow returns this Thursday at 8 pm on the CW.
