Marvel‘s quiet strength has been the incredible casting of many of their most iconic heroic characters, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, among many others. The villains however, have often stolen the show right out from under those heroes. Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki quickly became a fan favorite in Thor in 2011 and crushed it in The Avengers in 2012. It’s hard now for most fans to think that anyone else might play those parts now or in the inevitable future, but most are resigned to the fact that sooner or later, someone else will be taking the reins of one of our favorites. The question of when isn’t really the burning question though, but who.
In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Hiddleston was asked about the return of Loki and had some interesting things to pass on.
Thor 3 will be cool because I’ve not done it for four years,” says Hiddleston. “I love working with Chris [Hemsworth]. This will be my last time out of the gate.
When asked about Avengers: Infinity War, which will place the Avengers against Thanos, the evil behind Loki’s invasion of Earth in The Avengers, Hiddleston said:
I don’t know! Honestly, I don’t know. They haven’t got their ducks in a row yet. They make it up as they go along.
Now the sky is not falling, just because he doesn’t know yet doesn’t mean he won’t be in the Russo Brothers two-part film. There’s still months until the first part begins filming. The directorial pair is currently busy putting the finishing touches on Captain America: Civil War that hits theaters on May 6th.
We’ll all get our Loki fix with Thor: Ragnarok anyways. Loki will be a huge part of that story line as he is currently secretly ruling Asgard. Thor is not going to be pleased, and you can bet that Odin will have a thing or two to say once he wakes up.
Of course the real throne we’d all like to see Loki sit on…
