This Sunday will mark the end of The Walking Dead‘s sixth season and the long-awaited arrival of the villainous Negan, leader of the Saviors. Negan’s appearance has been teased mercilessly since the midseason break, right up to last week’s episode where Carl examines a gun taken from the Saviors and sees the image of a barb-wired covered bat carved on the grip. Even people who haven’t read the comics know that Negan is a big bad on par with Lex Luthor, the Joker, and Thanos, so his entrance has to be, to borrow a phrase, huge. Now, the lead actor of The Walking Dead is promising that we will not be disappointed.
While talking to Entertainment Weekly, Andrew Lincoln was ebullient in his praise for Negan’s arrival in this Sunday’s finale. “You know… Just get ready, man. Just get ready,” said the man that fill Rick Grimes’ shoes. “I read the script and I went, ‘This is the greatest entrance ever written.’ It’s an incredibly brilliant and well constructed and tense final episode. It’s really dark, man. It’s really dark.”
And when someone from The Walking Dead says it’s “really dark,” you know it’s *really* dark. What isn’t dark though are Lincoln’s thoughts on the man that plays Negan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Lincoln has nothing but praise for Morgan as an actor, and is looking forward to a long and fruitful collaboration.
“He’s just the coolest guy and everybody loves him,” Lincoln said. “Jeffrey’s such a great guy and I’ve been a huge admirer of his since he played the Comedian [Watchmen] and everything else he’s done. We’re going to have a lot of fun. Honestly, we are so thrilled to have him. We’re lucky people.”
Well, not all of you… Someone’s going home forever after this Sunday’s episode.
The 90-minute season finale of The Walking Dead airs this Sunday at 9 pm on AMC.
