This is one of those projects that you’ll be forgiven for not believing that it will happen, until it actually happens, but we have another casting announcement about the Blade Runner sequel. Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but it looks like this thing may be actually happening. Last week Robin Wright was announced to be joining the cast last week, which already includes Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in his epic return as Rick Deckard. The new member of the cast is himself no stranger to science fiction, franchises, or beating the odds. In other words, Dave Bautista is going to have a very busy year.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bautista has officially come aboard the as-yet-untitled Blade Runner sequel/follow-up. Who is he going to play? Good question. Obviously, no information on “who” has been released, but casting Bautista has been a smart move for Guardians of the Galaxy, and for Spectre. The new Blade Runner is expected to begin production later this year, likely in July, which means that Bautista is not going to have a lot of down time between wrapping up Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and starting Blade Runner. Not that he minds (probably).
In case you’ve forgotten, the new Blade Runner film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with a screenplay by Michael Green and Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote the original film. Ridley Scott, the director of the first Blade Runner, will be producing.
Blade Runner II (or whatever it’s going to be called) will be in theaters everywhere on January 12, 2018.
