While Star Wars fans may have to wait until 2017 for the official sequel to The Force Awakens, we still have a lot to look forward to in 2016. This December will bring us Star Wars: Rogue One, a prequel to both The Force Awakens and the original trilogy. Ever wondered how those brave rebels first stole the plans to the Death Star? Who wouldn’t? If it wasn’t for them, the legendary events of the original trilogy would have never happened. This December will finally give us some insight as to how this intergalactic heist took place. With ten more months to wait, December 16th seems like quite a long wait. Fortunately, the first teaser is coming much sooner than we thought.
Disney has announced today that the first teaser for Star Wars: Rogue One will premiere tomorrow on Good Morning America. Keeping with Hollywood’s tradition to tease its teasers, the official Star Wars YouTube page recently announced the teaser, showing the first footage from the film. Basically, it’s a black stormtrooper surveying what appears to be a crash site. Whether the supposed ship belongs to the Empire or the Rebellion is still unknown, but we may find out in tomorrow’s teaser.
The film will be directed by Godzilla (2014) director Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz (American Pie, Cinderella) and Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli). The cast will feature Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker and Diego Luna. Before it shows up online, the teaser will make its premiere tomorrow on Good Morning America, only on ABC. If you have work tomorrow, we highly recommend setting your DVRs to record the entire show. If not, then feel free to make yourself a big pancake breakfast (or maybe a few Pop-Tarts depending on your budget) while you wait for the trailer. Just make sure it doesn’t end up like that one episode of South Park.
