Despite wide-spread fan reservations, filming on Justice League Part One is expected to begin on Monday with Zack Snyder at the helm, and there’s at least one person who’s very excited about it. This person says don’t believe the anti-hype, there’s some awesome stuff coming up in the big screen version of DC Comics‘ premiere super-team, and he should know because he’s a member. Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman in the DC Movie Universe, wants you to know that he knows while some of you were disappointed with Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, he knows that Justice League is going to be awesome, and you should know it too.
Wading into the BvS controversy for the first time, Momoa told Entertainment Tonight that regardless of the critical drubbing and fan reservations, there some “big, beautiful stuff” coming with Justice League, and after keep it to himself for years, he’s desperately eager to share it.
“There’s been some things here and there, but I’m stoked. There’s a lot of support from fans. There’s a big beautiful world. There’s a lot — a lot — of stuff. I feel really privileged to know that there’s a lot of big, beautiful stuff that’s going to happen. I’m excited too, for people to see the final product. And now it’s our turn — it’s Justice League time! I’ve been waiting for four years that I’ve known about it that I’ve had to keep my mouth shut. I’m super pumped to shoot it! Some people liked it, some people didn’t, it is what it is. I don’t get it, but I don’t really listen to what anyone says… You can’t win ’em all. And I had a ball. I loved it.”
And then Momoa had to take expectations up to stratospheric levels.
“It’s just something that hasn’t been explored before. For me, it’s like Iron Man. When Iron Man came out, it was like, ‘Wow!’ We haven’t explored that character before and Robert Downey Jr. took it to a whole other level. He’s genius and it was amazing. I loved it.”
We may all be able to agree that RDJ is a genius, but so far fandom will never be able to agree on whether or not the DC Extended Universe has been a benefit or a blight to filmmaking. Momoa will have lots of time in the near future to prove himself though, first appearing as Aquaman in next years Justice League, and then in the character’s first solo adventure in 2018 directed by Furious 7’s James Wan.
