With Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially kicking off in just a few weeks with the release of Captain America: Civil War, speculation is flying as to what the third round of movies will bring. At a press event this weekend, some more information about Phase Three solidified as the Russo Brothers, who directed Civil War and Captain America: The Winter Soldier and are slated to direct the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movies, shifted attention from one MCU Chris (Chris Evans) to a couple other Chris-es. When asked about Infinity War, the Brothers confirmed the involvement of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Star-Lord (Chris Pratt).
At the aforementioned press event, Comicbook.com asked the Russo Brothers which character they were most looking forward to working on in the Infinity War movies. Anthony Russo named Star-Lord, saying:
“The movies are intended to be a culmination of everything that’s happened before in the MCU so you don’t want to get into spoilers, but I’m a big fan of what James Gunn has done… Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer, so you’d be very excited.”
It’s not necessarily a surprise that Star-Lord will be featured in Infinity War, but it is exciting to have it confirmed. It only makes sense that the MCU’s space-faring heroes, the Guardians of the Galaxy, would come into contact with the earth-bound heroes for the huge event, especially since the Guardians have already dealt, albeit indirectly, with the Big Bad of the MCU, Thanos. Hopefully, the rest of the Guardians will join Star-Lord in Infinity Wars.
As for Joe Russo‘s answer, he also nodded to an MCU hero with extra-terrestrial capabilities. After Thor is done chasing down leads on the Infinity Stones with the Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, it seems he’ll be moving on to Infinity War. Here’s what Joe Russo said about it:
“I’m excited to work with Thor. They’re doing some really interesting stuff with Ragnarok and where he’s gonna be at the beginning of Infinity War is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he’s gonna have a real emotional motivation after that.”
Interestingly enough, before making their way to Infinity War, both Thor and the Guardians will have a movie coming out next year, which has led to some speculation (at least by the author of this article) that fans might see some crossover in either Thor: Ragnarok or Guardians of the Galaxy 2, at least as a post credits scene. Either way, it looks like all three Chris-es will finally come together in Infinity War. As long as Evans makes it out of Civil War, that is.
What do you think of this news? Who else do you want to see in Infinity War?
