With Iron Fist finally coming together, completing the prearranged quartet necessary, Marvel Studios and Netflix are now looking to put the band together for The Defenders, the fifth and final series in the Marvel/Netflix deal. So who will have the unenviable task of bringing these street-level heroes together on one team in one series? A pair of people already familiar with 25 per cent of the team: Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who oversaw the recently completed second season of Daredevil. Under their supervision, the Man Without Fear, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will team up to take on a threat not one of them can handle alone.

The new was broken by Marvel themselves in a press release on their website. The release said that in addition to Petrie and Ramirez, original Daredevil showrunner Dew Goddard would also be coming onboard the series as an executive producer.

“We’re incredibly excited to be able to bring our four street level heroes together in an epic tale woven by Doug and Marco whose work on Marvel’s Daredevil speaks for itself,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “They write and produce not only great action and adventure, but also the heart and touch of humor that’s makes us Marvel. With the inclusion of Drew Goddard, we’ve got a team that’s as formidable as the Defenders themselves.”

“This is the big one. Four amazing casts, four amazing series, now all in one amazing story,” added Petrie and Ramirez. “We are thrilled at the opportunity to deliver the show that both we and the fans have been waiting for.”

Speaking of waiting, with Petrie and Ramirez now working on Defenders, it seems likely that we will now have to wait a while for more Daredevil. We’ve heard previously that season two of Jessica Jones will also have to wait until after The Defenders, so it seems that the batting order for Marvel/Netflix is now going to be the fall premiere of Luke Cage, followed by the premiere of Iron Fist early next year, and The Defenders likely next fall.

The Defenders – starring Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones will start production sometime later this year.
