With Captain America: Civil War kicking off Marvel’s Phase 3, Kevin Feige spoke with Entertainment Weekly on several subjects including Phase 4. On May 6, 2016 the 13th movie of the Marvel Studio’s franchise hits theaters. Only 11 movies are slated for the third phase including Thor:Ragnarok, Black Panther and Avengers Infinity War Part 1 and 2. One big question still loom on the horizon; when will Marvel Studios make Inhumans? Currently Inhumans are part of Agents of Shield’s main plot and Marvel Studios might be waiting for the TV show to finish their scripts. You can find a full listing of all Phase 3 movies here. Kevin hints at what’s in store for Phase 4.
“I think you look at comics as a guide,” Feige tells EW. “Although certain titles may get relaunched or rebooted, the narrative exists on a never-ending continuum.”
Later in the interview Kevin added
“I think there will be a finality to moments of Phase Three, as well as new beginnings that will mark a different, a very different, a distinctively different chapter in what will someday be a complete first saga made up of three phases,”
With comics in mind, we could see a whole plethora of interconnected movies unlike anything in cinema history. Most franchises are good with trilogies and sequels. With phase three complete, humanity gets the rare treat of seeing a meta-plot put together and executed in 24 full length movies. TV shows series can only allude to this type of audacious vision. Star Wars might realize this dream soon with the Young Han Solo Trilogy and other movies slated. But Marvel will lead the way for others including DC. The power of the mouse has been unleashed upon the world.
One can hope the comic industry which inspires the Marvel Studio’s franchise can keep up and stay alive. Rumors abound concerning the poor and stale state of affairs for comics. The comic industry needs to stay alive as it is the creative backbone for Marvel and many entertainment companies.
