Michael_Keaton_s_McDonald_s_biopic_has_a_pretty_ominous_tagline___

It seems as if every day there is another piece of news coming out of Marvel Studios regarding one of its many projects, as the MCU moves into phase three and beyond.  Yet again Marvel dropped another few bits of information on the public and like all news… With the good, always comes the bad! Earlier today Robert Downey Jr. was revealed to have signed a contract, confirming his appearance as Iron Man (obviously!) in Spider-Man: Homecoming (you can read the NerdBastards article here.) But as Thanos opens a door, he closes a window. It seems that talks between Michael Keaton and Marvel have broken down in relation to his part in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Rumours spread like wildfire after Michael Keaton had been confirmed to be in talks to be part of Spider-Man: Homecoming and the Marvel fanbase lost their minds. Keaton is well known for portraying the lead roles in both Batman (1989) and Beetlejuice (1988) and came was thrown back into the limelight with the insanely brilliant Birdman (2015,)  where he received an Oscar nomination. Keaton’s cult following means he is an ideal addition to any superhero film. Unfortunately it seems that the talks stalled at the offer stage.

Keaton could still be involved in Spider-Man: Homecoming but his current stance is that he is out of the proceedings. It would be incredibly interesting to see where Keaton would fit into the MCU and their upcoming Spider-Man film. Only time will tell who will play what in the film but I think it is safe to say Keaton would be welcome to the Spideyverse with open arms, particularly by the fans.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled for release July 7th, 2017.
