It comes with great sadness to report that a legend in the music industry has passed away. Prince Rogers Nelson, better known as “Prince,” passed away today at the age of 57. According to reports, paramedics were dispatched at 9:43 AM to the home of Prince at Paisley Park estate located in Minnesota. It was shortly after when the Carver County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that there was a fatality on the grounds.
Prince is well known for his amazing guitar rifts, his exuberant fashion and shows, and Purple Rain. However, something that this generation is unaware of is his contribution to nerd culture. In particular, the soundtrack to Tim Burton’s 1989 film Batman. Here’s a perfect example. Take a look and listen to one of the best scenes in the movie which features the song, “Partyman.”
Jack Nicholson plus Prince equals pure gold. Partyman was just one example. The entire album was edgy, screamed the 80’s, and provided an entirely different perspective of the movie.
Throughout his career, Prince accumulated quite the number of accomplishments. He won seven Grammy Awards and garnered tons of hits. He sold millions upon millions of records and even won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain in 1985. He was also inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Prince will be missed, but his music and legend will surely live on forever.
