Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters everywhere in just one more week, officially kicking off Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Weirdly enough through, this article is all about looking ahead to the end of Phase Three in the form of the Russo Brothers’ follow-up to Civil War, the two-part Avengers: Infinity War. Since Joe and Anthony Russo are currently making the rounds of promotion for Civil War, it would be understandable to hear some words about Infinity War, some ambiguous and non-enlightening words, but words just the same. From what they’re saying though, there’s going to be some big consequences before and after Infinity War.

The guys at Hey U Guys recently caught up with Russos, who laid out the stakes for the coming Avengers two-parter. “Those are two gigantic movies that are intended to be the culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.” said Anthony Russo. “There’s going to be storytelling that happens in those films that we haven’t seen yet in the MCU, so who’s to say what the condition of the characters are at that point? Who even makes it to that movie to begin with, but who makes it out of those movies is anybody’s guess at this point.”

Two more questions are who makes it to Infinity War, and where do they go afterward? Russo doesn’t know. “We are moving into a phase now in the storytelling where, when we bring Captain America’s story forward from Civil War, it’s going to be into Avengers: Infinity War.” he added. “That’s the next chapter, so to speak, in his specific story, and there’s been no talk of where we go beyond that yet.”

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has promised a shake-up in the MCU following Infinity War, but right now, we have no idea what that looks like. The one movie that was scheduled to come out after Infinity War – Part 2, Inhumans, has been delayed and is presently unscheduled. But perhaps we get ahead of ourselves. There are still many projects to get through including Captain Marvel, of which nothing’s been revealed yet. We’ll probably get hints on all of this soon though as the lengthy Infinity War shoot is expected to begin in November.
