When it was announced that Season Two of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix would feature the “Daredevil vs The Punisher” storyline, fans went crazy with excitement. When Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal was cast as army veteran turned vigilante Frank Castle, even better. As we watched that season, most of the best parts did involve The Punisher and it was a refreshing take on the character. Bernthal’s performance was praised by audiences and critics alike. Not only was he the one man army that could take out groups of mobsters, or steamroll through an entire wing of prisoners with one knife, but he also had a sweet side and offered Karen Page advice as well as reflect on time with his dearly departed daughter. It was almost a foregone conclusion that he would get his own Netflix show. When first rumored that Punisher would get a show, it was immediately debunked by producers. However, it looks like we will be seeing more of Frank Castle after all.
It was reported today that Marvel has ordered Marvel’s The Punisher for Netflix. We’ll be seeing more of Franks Castle! Bernthal is expected to reprise his role. The show runner for this show will be Steve Lightfoot, whose writing and producing credits include NBC’s critically acclaimed Hannibal series. No other actors have yet been cast, nor have they announced when the show will premiere on the streaming service. With Netflix still needing to release Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones Season Two, and The Defenders, it will take some time before we see this spin off show. If Netflix and Marvel keep their promise of a new Marvel show every 6 months, we should expect to see this series sometime in 2018. We can also expect to see some characters that are in the other “street level” shows showing up here and there. Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple will most certainly make an appearance or two as she remains the glue for all the shows.
In the meantime, we have been treated with a teaser image.
