When Hugh Jackman was first cast as Wolverine in Bryan Singer‘s X-Men, there was a great deal of trepidation on the part of fans. How was this unknown, musical theatre Aussie with about a foot on Logan going to be able to portray Marvel‘s favorite Canucklehead? Now, it’s almost hard to imagine anyone else in the role, but that’s exactly what fans are going to have to do after Jackman’s final outing as Wolverine is released next year. Information about the film is coming ever faster as production really gets underway and today brings news of a couple more actors who will join Jackman for his last adamantium-clawed adventure.
Eric La Salle (Coming to America, ER) and Elise Neal (The Hughleys, Scream 2) have been cast in unspecified roles for the film. They will join Boyd Holbrook (Narcos), Stephen Merchant (The Ricky Gervais Show), Richard E. Grant (Bram Stoker’s Dracula), and Patrick Stewart, who will reprise his role as Charles Xavier, in the supporting cast. It’s been rumored that Liev Schreiber was in talks to return as Sabretooth. James Mangold will return to direct this follow up to 2013’s The Wolverine.
The as-yet-untitled Wolverine 3 will reportedly adapt the Old Man Logan storyline from the comics. It’s also been rumored that the movie will include the female clone of Wolverine, X-23, and that, after the success of Deadpool, Wolverine 3 may be the hero’s first R-rated outing.
Although it’s sad to see Jackman go, the newest trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse hints pretty hard that fans will get a least one more glimpse of him as Wolverine before Wolverine 3.
Who do you think La Salle and Neal will play? What do you hope to see in Wolverine 3?
