When the newest iteration of the Star Wars: Battlefront video game came in 2015, it was a certified hit. Of course, everyone remembers the commercials with everyone “force-ghosting” into the video game, but it took the industry on by storm this past year. The video game sold more than 14 million copies and went on to be the 4th best-selling video game in 2015. Thanks to downloadable content and expansion packs for the game it continues to be a top seller. With such a massive success on their hands, it’s almost a no-brainer that Electronic Arts (EA) would make a sequel to this game.
EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed during their company earning’s call that Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will be coming to gaming consoles in 2017. Although we have to wait until 2017 for the game, Jorgensen also announced that there will also be multiple Star Wars games coming from EA over the next few years.
“Next year we’ll see Star Wars Battlefront back with bigger and better worlds, because we now have the new movies to work off [and] not just the historical movies that we used before.”
This means that characters and locations from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One might possibly be in the new video game. Not only will you be able to play as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, etc., but also now a plethora of characters from the new films. Kylo Ren Captain Phasma, Rey and Fin could be at your fingertips for massive battles. With Disney planning on releasing a new Star Wars film every year through 2019, there will be a lot of source material to pick from for future Star Wars video games.
