After a brief struggle in the middle of the franchise, 20th Century Fox has really regained their stride with the X-Men movies. Later this month, the third movie in what could be thought of as a prequel trilogy (consisting of X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse) will be released. These prequels have explored the history of the X-Men through the 60’s and 70’s and this newest movie is appropriately set in the 80’s. Throughout these movies, many questions have been answered to explain the state in which we find the heroes at the beginning of the first X-Men, but one big question remains to rankle the curiosity lobes of cinematic X-Men universe historians: How did Charles Xavier go bald? Well, a newly released featurette shows how it happens (in the real world, anyway) as James McAvoy shaves his own head with Patrick Stewart watching on via Facetime with director Bryan Singer. Enjoy.
While the video doesn’t exactly shed light on how Xavier loses his hair, it is delightful to watch these guys have fun as McAvoy removes his. Apparently, this isn’t the first time McAvoy has shaved his head, although it is the first time while sober. For McAvoy, adopting Xavier’s signature look in the presence (albeit digital) of Stewart was a true passing of the baton.
Fans will have to wait until May 27th to find out how Xavier loses his hair in the movie. Presumably, it happens pretty early on, as this video was made on only the tenth day of shooting for the film. It probably happens that Xavier accidentally backs over Apocalypse’s cat and Apocalypse, distraught beyond all reason, goes on a speciecidal rampage, ultimately skipping Xavier’s eyebrows and shaving his entire head. Probably.
What do you think happens to Xavier’s head? Are you excited for X-Men: Apocalypse?
