Birdman

Spider-Man: Homecoming is the first Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After being introduced in Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man will be played by Tom Holland. It’s safe to say that Marvel Studios have got their casting for Peter Parker bang on the money but more often than not it is the villains that fall flat in the web-slinger’s movies. Back in early April, fans were given a ray of hope when it was rumored that Batman himself, Michael Keaton, was in talks to play the lead villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming. (You can find out what NB had to say about that here.) Alas, that was short lived and almost a month ago to the day, NerdBastards brought you the news that Michael Keaton was no longer in contention for the role after talks broke down. Well dry those tears, quit saying Beetlejuice three times and stop watching Birdman on repeat because there is good news after all!

It has been confirmed that Michael Keaton is in final negotiations with Marvel Studios to play the antagonist in the upcoming Spider-Man film. This says a lot about the potential of this movie. Keaton has been on incredible form after Birdman (ironically the story of a former superhero actor) thrust him back into the spotlight. Not only is Keaton no stranger to wearing a cape and mask, his stature as an actor says that Marvel are going big with this film. Although some of the previous Spider-Man films weren’t complete car wrecks (in fact a couple of them had some outstanding moments) they haven’t lived up to the status that Spider-Man has as a comic book character. Civil War showed how good Tom Holland is in the role so having Michael Keaton as a villain will only enhance the experience. There are still massive questions about the villain Keaton will play. Huge speculation has been placed on him donning the cowl of Vulture but you’d forgive people’s cynicism at the idea of the Birdman playing… well, another bird man. Let’s hope that the final negotiations will go through and that we see Micheal Keaton taking on Spider-Man next year.

Spiderman: Homecoming is due for release July 7th, 2017.
