Who would have guessed that played Cyclops’ mutant cybernetic son from the distant future would end up being one of the most in-demand roles in Hollywood right now? That’s what it’s starting to look like. We know that the leader of X-Force will appear in one way, shape or form in the upcoming Deadpool sequel, and the most often associated name with the part is Avatar’s Stephen Lang. But lately Dolph Lundgren thew his hat into that ring too, and now Ron Perlman has said “Why not me?” Of course, Perlman is arguably best known for playing comic book hero Hellboy, but if the third movie in that series can’t come to pass…
Perlman put forth a compelling case for his casting yesterday on Facebook.
Not bad right? But suppose I have a terrible lack of imagination, what exactly would Perlman look like if we were to dressed and made up as Cable in Deadpool 2? Well graphic designer BossLogic filled in those blanks with this post on Twitter.

Okay, that’s pretty awesome. I think we were all ready to buy Lang as Cable, but Perlman (and BossLogic) make a compelling case too. It may depend on the tone they’re going for. It they want someone to play Cable straight, then Lang would be the obvious choice; but if they want someone to bring some humor to the part, although not to the extent that Cable would be cracking wise too, then Perlman could bring a lot of humanity to the role. Check out his roles in Blade II and Pacific Rim where he can be funny and bad ass at the same time.
For comparison’s sake, let’s look at BossLogic’s concept art for Lang as Cable:

Deadpool is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and video on demand; Deadpool 2 will likely go into production sometime early next year.
