In terms of new character debuts in pre-established movies, they didn’t come much smoother than when Chadwick Boseman took to the screen in Captain America: Civil War. Between Boseman as Black Panther and Tom Holland as Spider-Man they quite nearly upstaged with the two main characters, including the titular hero of the piece. So now that we know that Black Panther is ready for his own solo debut, the question must be asked, which characters will support this new hero in his self-titled adventure? And just like that, the internet answers with what looks like a leaked casting sheet for the main parts needing recruitment in the upcoming Black Panther.
According to a website called moviecastingcall.com, this is the partial cast list for Black Panther, presumably most of the main cast for the upcoming Marvel movie, the 18th in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So aside from Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther we’ve got.
*Ulysses Klaw – A black market arms dealer branded as a thief for stealing vibranium from Wakanda played by Andy Serkis in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
*Everett Ross – An official with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security introduced in Civil War, and played by Martin Freeman.
*Monica Lynne – In the comics, she’s an American singer that becomes romantically involved with T’Challa. This could be the role that will be played by Lupita Nyong’o in the film.
*White Wolf – T’Challa’s adapted older brother, and the former leader of Wakanda’s secret police though he was eventually exiled for his, shall we say, Jack Bauer-like tactics. This is the role that Michael B. Jordan is supposedly in line for, and is the presumptive villain of the movie.
*N’Gassi – An advisor to T’Challa who acts as regent of Wakanda in the king’s absence.
*W’Kabi – T’Challa’s second-in-command.
*Zuri – A close friend of T’Challa’s father T’Chaka, a renowned warrior who remains a counsellor to the new king.
*Queen Divine Justice – The ruler of a particular Wakandan tribe called the Jabari, though she was born and raised in Chicago. She was also once one of the Dora Milaje, women who are both betrothed and bodyguard to the king.
*Okoye and Malice – Both are former Dora Milaje, but Malice has superhuman strength, speed and agility too.
*Erik Killmonger – A powerful warrior and strategic genius that eventually becomes T’Challa’s enemy.
*Man-Ape – Also known as M’Baku, who was the second most skilled warrior in Wakanda. Part of the White Gorilla cult though, he was an outcast because the ruling family of Wakanda belongs to the Black Panther cult, and he once tried to usurp power from T’Challa (unsuccessfully).
That seems like a deep line-up, but there is, however, a catch. All the role descriptions in this so-called casting call were taken from the Black Panther Wikipedia page, which is probably not something that Marvel Studios would have done if this was an actual casting call. Of course they might be trying to bury the twists for these characters in the movie, but usually producers put out straight-up fake character names and descriptions if they’re trying to hide things.
So is this legit? I guess we’ll find out in due time. Marvel announced the cast list of Thor: Ragnarok last week, and Black Panther will be going into production right after that. In other words, expect some official casting news soon. Black Panther will likely be going into production at the end of the year.
Black Panther will be in theaters everywhere on February 16, 2018.
