You’ve probably heard the discussions, rumors and speculation about who all is going to be in the two-parter Avengers: Infinity War. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have teased that there will be upwards of 67 characters in the films, producer Kevin Feige has said that the third and forth Avengers films will be a “culmination” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, which are all effective teases, but part one of Infinity War will be the 19th movie of the MCU with 19 movies full of characters that could or could not be a part of the film. But now it’s been revealed that at least one group of characters will definitely be part of the fight.
While talking to the Nerdist, Infinity War co-screenwriter Christopher Markus was asked about the Guardians of the Galaxy, and whether or not they’d be joining the Earth-bound Marvel heroes in the fight for the Infinity Stones. He gave a very direct response. “Let me put it this way. You know who owns that gauntlet, right. And you know who’s in another movie and his kids are in that movie… you do the math,” said Markus.
Calling Thanos “you know who” gives him a Voldemort vibe, which is appropriate given the fact that much of the doings in the MCU since the end of The Avengers have been about teasing the imminent confrontation between the heroes and Thanos. Markus teasing the inclusion of Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), Thanos’ daughters, also makes sense considering their rivalry, and considering that Nebula had a pretty important role in the comic book Infinity Gauntlet storyline that presumably Infinity War is based on. And if Gamora is there, then you better believe that the rest of the Guardians will be there with her.
Meanwhile, Markus and co-writer Stephen McFeely have just finished the second draft for Infinity War, which looks to begin filming in November. The writers will next be consulting with other Marvel Studios filmmakers to make sure that all the Ts are crossed in terms of character development, a list that includes Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther.
Avengers: Infinity War – Part One will be in theaters everywhere on May 4, 2018.
