The release of Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice was prefaced with the news that they would be releasing a longer, darker cut of the movie on home video later this year. In hindsight – heck, even at the time – in seemed like an admission of defeat on the part of Warner Bros., the studio anticipated extremely mixed reactions were already saying, “Well wait for the real version of the movie when it comes out on Blu-ray.” So now it’s almost time. Will the “Ultimate Edition” of Batman V. Superman manage to make up think more fondly on the film with its bonus scenes and added violence? Who can say, but we now have a trailer for it.
The big question is will those 30 extra minutes make a difference? In the below trailer, which is about a minute-and-a -half long, we get hints of Jena Malone‘s maybe Barbara Gordon role, a lot more of what happened in Africa that made people so ticked off to begin with, and more of the aftermath of the bombing of the Capital. It also looks like the climactic fight will be expanded, as will the villainy of Jesse Eisenberg‘s Lex Luther.
So do you dare to check out the trailer? Do you dare to hope that BvS won’t let you down again? Behold…
Director Zack Snyder explained to Collider a while ago what will set the “Ultimate Edition” apart. “There’s a little bit of action, there’s a little bit of violence that we trimmed out for the MPAA that we put back,” he said. “The Batman warehouse rescue, there’s a couple shots of Doomsday that were too intense. Then there’s a little bit longer ending, sort of the ending sequence, and the opening of the movie, the North Africa sequence is really much different.”
Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice “Ultimate Edition” will be available on digital download on June 28, and on Blu-ray and DVD on July 19.
