This past Monday, Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida recently hosted Candace Payne (The Laughing Chewbacca Mom) on campus for a tour with their mascot Scorch while she was on a family vacation. The college’s President Dr. Kent Ingle surprised her when he presented Candace with full tuition scholarships for her entire family, including her husband and two children.
“Candace has inspired us and others with her joy, and we want her and her family to experience some of that same joy through this gift,” Ingle said.
Dr. Ingle had such a blast working with Candace. The university stated that she is just so genuine and an inspiration to millions! You can view Candace’s campus tour below.
Roughly two weeks ago, the 37-year-old Texas mother went to her local Kohl’s to return clothes which didn’t fit her. While there, she happened to come across a Chewbacca mask that she knew she had to have. When she returned to her car, she recorded a video of herself unboxing the Wookiee’s mask. Telling her followers that it was a birthday gift to herself, she put it on while filming and began laughing uncontrollably once the well-known Wookiee’s roar emitted from the mask each time Candace opened her mouth. Her video immediately went viral gaining 20 million views within just 24 hours of posting. Currently the video has been viewed over 150 million times and is being hailed as the most watched Facebook Live video to date.
Candace’s video provided free publicity and promotion for Kohl’s, Hasbro, Star Wars and Facebook. To repay her for the name-dropping that’s been hear over 150 million times, all of the mentioned companies found a way to thank her and honor her and her family.
Candace has received toys and gift cards from Kohl’s. Hasbro came through with more Star Wars toys for her and her family. ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ director, J.J. Abrams, hung out with her on a ride-along on The Late Late Show with James Corden where they all wore the mask and laughed out loud. Even the head of Facebook head, Mark Zuckerberg, invited the new social media star to Facebook Headquarters in recognition of her viral Facebook Live video. And now, to top things off, her children’s college future is taken care of and Candace and her husband have the opportunity to attend as well.
“This is such an amazing gift for our family, I’m blown away,” said Candace humbly. “I mean, my kids’ college is paid for!”
