Those who have followed the King Kong franchise over the years know that filmmakers have had a rough ride trying to (re)make the giant ape interesting enough to both attract moviegoers and please critics alike. But there’s a solution to this problem and it’s now right in our faces – Turn King Kong into an interactive world. Universal Studios, Orlando has done just that with Skull Island: Reign of Kong. And now, finally, this part of the park is getting ready to open to the public.
You may not think King Kong when it comes to visiting USO. I mean, they have the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Jurassic Park there as well, so who wants to see a giant ape? But if you’re into heavily atmospheric scenery and rides that border on pants-crappingly intense, you may want to make a detour to check this out. Here’s a brief video that shows off just some of what you might expect, including the line queue and a couple of animatronics.
Back when I was a kid, growing up in Southern California, Universal Studios was one of the places that the family would make the rounds through during summer. Even then, before a new era of animatronics and special effects, it was one of my favorite places to go. I can’t imagine how blown away I would have been had I had the chance to walk through something like this. They’ve definitely upped their game. They’re even using live actors to mess with people in the queue and make it an even more authentic experience.
Of course, the biggest question is – How is the actual ride? That’s something that will, unfortunately, have to be answered on another day, by another video. But based on the exterior alone, Universal spared no expense at designing a curiously terrifying attraction.
