Ever since actress Sharon Stone announced that she had a “wee part” in a Marvel movie, it left fans speculating as to who she could actually be. Many had speculated purely for nostalgic reasons that she would reunite with her Basic Instinct cast mate Michael Douglas and be in Ant-Man and the Wasp as Hank Pym’s long lost wife Janet van Dyne. However, it has never been confirmed that she was going to appear in the Ant-Man sequel. Recently Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn posted on his “What We Shot Wednesdays” Facebook posts was a sketch of a face surrounded by fire. Combined with the fact that Sharon Stone also said in another interview that she will have heat powers, this added “fuel to the fire” that perhaps Stone will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 instead. So who on Earth (or elsewhere) could Stone be playing?
This has led many to go crazy with theories that Stone will be playing Nicholette (Nikki) Gold who was one of the Original Guardians of the Galaxy. The original, you ask? Yes! The members of the Guardians of The Galaxy that is currently on film were not the original. The original Guardians of the Galaxy have been in the comics since 1969. That iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy is from an alternate reality in the future. The original Guardians consisted of her, Charlie-27, Firelord, Starhawk, Yondu (yes our Yondu), and many others as they went on many adventures throughout the galaxy. Their primary opponent was the Badoon, an alien race that conquered much of the galaxy. When the new Guardians of the Galaxy comics came, they even crossed paths with the originals and have gone on time travel adventures with Star Lord, Rocket and the gang.
With casting announcements of Kurt Russel and Sylvester Stallone, this has added more speculation as well. After all, there has been no official announcement as to who they might be playing in the sequel. The only thing we know is that Kurt Russell will be Star Lord’s father, but he won’t J’son of Spartax as he is in the comic book. This led to speculation that Kurt Russell will be Starhawk, who is one of the original guardians, but is so powerful that he can be in multiple places at once. If Russell is, in fact, Starhawk, then who could Stallone be? Stallone naturally has the same body frame and stockiness that Charlie-27 has, so perhaps that’s who Stallone’s mystery character is. Keep in mind that actress Elizabeth Debicki is rumored to be playing Kismet/Ayesha, the rumored villain of the sequel, who just also happens to be Starhawk’s mother. This would effectively make the sequel very much a family-focused film and can perfectly tie in the original heroes with the ones who know and love. The only two Original Guardians that are unclear are Vance Astro and Martinex. Astro would be an even cooler tie in as in that alternate reality he wields Captain America’s vibranium shield. Martinex would probably be played by a CGI character. There are all sorts of ways to blend these who universes together. After all, we still need to find the Time Gem Infinity Stone.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes to theaters May 5, 2017.
