This week, E3 is unfolding in Los Angeles. It’s the Comic Con of video games; the spring training – if you will – for the retail year ahead in gaming, so expect a whole lot of gaming news in the next couple of days. To wit, in this article here we have your first trailer for the latest edition to the Halo franchise, Halo Wars 2. It’s not imaginatively named, but it is a sequel to the first Halo spin-off, 2009’s real-time strategy game Halo Wars. The original game was fairly well-received, so will the sequel be able to capitalize on what Halo Wars did so right, or will the sequel fail to live up to lofty expectations? Let’s let first impressions of the trailer decide.
The following trailer for Halo Wars 2 was released at the media briefing for Xbox this morning at E3. It’s the first new material for the game to be revealed since its announcement at Gamescom last August…
The story behind the game involves Captain Cutter of the UNSC Spirit of Fire. He and his crew “awake to find themselves orbiting an ancient station called the Arc,” which leads to a battle with a faction called the Banished, who are led by the Brute warlord Atriox. For the record, it’s Cutter and Atriox that are facing off in the trailer above. Halo Wars 2 is being developed by Creative Assembly and 343 Industries for PC and Xbox One.
Halo Wars 2 will hit store shelves on February 21, 2017.
