Ever since Supergirl showed up on CBS last year, her cousin Kal-El, AKA Superman has been in the shadows… literally. The entire first season the audience was treated only to a silhouette of him, or Kara would simply be e-mailing him. This was done for a multitude of reasons, one reason would be because the production team wanted the show to keep focus exclusively on Kara Zor-El and not her more known and more popular cousin. Leaving him ambiguous allows us to focus on the intended hero. Another reason could be due to the DC movie verse already having an established actor for the role of Superman. It could lead to audience confusion and possible superhero fatigue. However, as many times have been stated, the DC Movie-verse and the DC TV-verse operated completely independent of each other. So why not have two Supermen? Now that Supergirl is over on the CW Network, not only does the show have a new home, but the show will finally bring Superman out of the shadows. Wanna know who is playing the role?
It was just announced that actor Tyler Hoechlin will be Kara’s long lost cousin during the show’s second season. The actor is most famous for appearing in MTV’s Teen Wolf. The actor was also rumored to play as Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before Ben Affleck was cast. Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had this to saw following the casting:
Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.
Supergirl season 2 will air at 8pm Mondays on The CW in the fall of 2016
