In other news today, it seems that Captain America: Civil War has become the first film this year to make more than $400 million at the domestic box office. That’s no mean feat in a summer supposedly filled with “sequel-itis” and a bold testament to the skill and vision of Marvel Studios, which will be tested again this time next year when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in theaters, aiming to capitalize on the good vibes created by the original in 2014. Meanwhile, somewhere across the sea at Pinewood Studios, GOTG star Chris Pratt has finished his good work, and director James Gunn has paid tribute to him in a new video.
Posted to Facebook, Gunn said an official goodbye, at least so far as the principal photography of GOTG2 is concerned, to his leading man.
There’s a guy who I’ve been around for three-and-a-half, maybe four years. He’s become a close friend. And we’ve been through a long, long journey together. And I am wrapping Mr. Chris Pratt from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Pratt, in return, offered praise to his director for his skill, efficiency and preparation as it makes a huge project like Guardians of the Galaxy run very smoothly. Oh, and his also ratcheted the hype up to 11.
I’m telling you all something. You are now part…They can never take this away from us. This is going to be the greatest spectacle film of all time. And each of us has our name on it, each of us has a piece of it. And for our entire lives, people are going to be really impressed that we did this movie. For the rest of your careers. The reason you’re here, is because you are the best in the business at what you do. And if anyone doesn’t believe, if you don’t believe it, just give it a year and wait for this movie to come out, and you’ll see. You kicked ass. And most importantly, I want to do this on behalf of the cast as well, I want to thank James, who made a 90 day shoot efficient, on time, under budget…Nobody ever does that. And it’s due to preparation.
Finally, Gunn confirmed what had only been a rumor until now, that he will be at this year’s San Diego Comic Con with, presumably, the rest of the Marvel Studios team.
We have an announcement. We, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, are coming to San Diego Comic-Con this year. We’re going to be there. I’m gong to be there. Chris Pratt is going to be there. A bunch of the gang is going to be there. And we’re going to show you guys something pretty cool.
