Little by little, it has become clear that this new Power Rangers movie is not going to be like the show many of us grew up watching as kids. It actually may be a little bit better. In fact, it just got a lot better because news just broke that Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Malcolm In The Middle) will be playing the mentor and somewhat spiritual guide to the Power Rangers, Zordon. Cranston took to Twitter to break the news himself which was then tweeted by the official Power Rangers twitter handle.

For those of you wondering, Zordon of Eltar is the mentor for the group known as the Power Rangers. He and the movie’s main villain, Rita Repulsa, have a long history. In fact, he’s the reason why Rita and her band of minions were locked away for so long. Sadly, she’s the reason why Zordon appears as a giant head of floating energy. As a final act before her banishment, she banished Zordon inside of a time warp which exists outside of normal time. However, that didn’t stop him from preparing for the eventual return of Rita and her gang.

As of right now there is no official word for both parties as to how Cranston will appear on the big screen? If they stay completely true to the source material, Cranston’s head is all we may ever see. However, it may not be a bad thing if his entire body were projected. But one thing should remain, and that he’s trapped within the time warp that Rita banished him to and that he’s only appears as an energy projection.

It’s a great fact to learn that the original Blue Ranger, Bill Cranston, was named after the actor. Coincidentally, Cranston has already been a part of the franchise. Did you know that Cranston voiced the villain Snizzard on one of the show’s earlier episodes? Take a look below.

Also starring in the movie are Dacre Montgomery (A Few Less Men) as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott (The 33) as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G (Empire) as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt) as Zack the Black Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect, The Hunger Games franchise) as Rita Repulsa.

The new Power Rangers movie is slated to hit theaters on March 24, 2017.
