Once upon a time, there would have been no question as to whether or not a movie project like Justice League would appear at San Diego Comic Con. SDCC is the premier name in nerd culture, a trade show for all things nerdy! If you want to create buzz, then San Diego in July was where you wanted to be. Not so much anymore as any given year it seems like there’s one or two major studios or companies that sit out the con (or in the case of Disney, hold their own), but this year San Diego looks jam-packed with big names and guests, and the latest is Justice League.
According to the website Batman News, Batman himself, Ben Affleck, was asked in an impromptu paparazzi scrum over the weekend about his Comic Con plans. “Will you be at Comic-Con, sir?,” one fan asked. “Yeah, we’ll be there,” Affleck replied. The “we”, we’re meant to understand, is the cast of Justice League. Production on the superhero film began back in April so there’s a reasonably decent chance that the Zack Snyder film will have some finished footage ready to show fans beyond just the appearance of cast members like Affleck, Henry Cavill, Jason Mamoa, Ray Fisher and Ezra Miller.
We know that one other member of the Justice League was already going to be at SDCC, with Gal Gadot and the cast of Wonder Woman being there to promote that particular adventure next summer. Suicide Squad will also be there to promote the super-villain team-up film, which opens just a couple of weeks after the con. With Marvel Studios showing up again at SDCC to promote Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 it looks like the old Marvel/DC rivalry is going to play out again but with big screen stakes.
San Diego Comic Con runs from July 20 through 24 this year.
