The seventh season finale of Archer concluded on the kind of cliffhanger that left fans at a total loss to guess where the show was going next. It seemed a very real possibility that the next chapter of the ex-spy now private eye’s story would be left to the annals of fan fiction. It was the kind of ending that could’ve been an epic blaze of glory that had people talking for a long, long time. Perhaps a fitting end to the world’s crudest spy.Or, it could be the first step of the most insane adventure yet. Maybe, even, the foundation for the long rumoured Archer live action movie…
But that remains just a twinkle in Adam Reed‘s eye for now, as the animated series has been officially renewed by FX for another three seasons.
Nick Grad, president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions, has nothing but compliments for the show entire run:
“We can’t say enough about what Adam, Matt and the entire Archer team at Floyd County have done to keep this series so insanely funny and vital through seven seasons. The move to Los Angeles this past season as private detectives was just the latest twist in Archer’s legendary exploits and the next three seasons will to be just as amazing and unpredictable. We are thrilled to continue making great TV with our friends and colleagues at Floyd County.”
The mysterious ending to the last episode is not the only thing keeping fans on tenterhooks. The most recent season saw Cyril gaining a little dominance in the group, as well as showing off some of the espionage prowess Mallory has cultivated over her decades long career. Kreiger’s nefarious dark side is getting more and more screen time with every passing season.
If the upcoming three seasons are going to be anything like the ones leading up to it, they’re going to be well worth looking out for.
The next season is due to launch in 2017.
