Olmec

Whether you were more of a red jaguar, blue barracuda, green monkey, orange iguana, purple parrot or silver snake, you had one ally in common on the 90’s game show Legends of the Hidden Temple; and that was Olmec.  It was always crucial to listen to the large stone head when he re-told his ancient stories, because you knew you’d be quizzed on them afterwards.  Now it seems you’ll get to hear him wax poetic yet again.  Nickelodeon has announced that Dee Bradley Baker, the original voice of Olmec, will be reprising his vocal role for the Legends of the Hidden Temple movie.

Baker has stayed fairly busy since his Olmec days, lending his vocal talents to animated series including American Dad!, SpongeBob SquarePants, Gravity Falls, Phineas and Ferb and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He can also be heard in The Boxtrolls, as well as the video games Halo and Gears of War. It seems Baker still has a special spot in his heart for Legends of the Hidden Temple, though, as sensed in his reaction to the TV series being turned into a movie:

“An entire generation grew up loving Legends of the Hidden Temple. It was my first television series, and it remains one of the most popular projects I’ve ever been lucky enough to have been involved with throughout my career. I’m thrilled that Kirk Fogg and I can once again man the temple as Nickelodeon brings it back in a fresh new way. This rock is once again ready to roll!”

That’s right- former Legends host Kirk Fogg will also be returning in some form, with lead roles going to Isabela Moner (Transformers: The Last Knight), Colin Critchley and Jet Jurgensmeyer.

The movie itself is said to present the game show’s style in narrative form, and was described by Nickelodeon as such:

The Legends of the Hidden Temple TV movie follows three siblings who break away from a lackluster tour in a jungle, finding themselves immersed in a high-stakes adventure comprised of obstacles that they must complete in order to escape alive. The TV movie will feature many elements from the original game show including: Olmec, a talking head who greets cast members Noah, Sadie and Dudley, and launches them on the adventure of a lifetime; The Steps of Knowledge, the entrance to the temple and launching pad for the mission; and appearances from a green monkey, red jaguar, and silver snakes, among others.

Set to arrive on Nickelodeon sometime in the fall, the film is directed by Joe Menendez (From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series), and written by  Jonny Umansky, Zach Hyatt, and Alex Reid. More on this legend as it unfolds!
