A lot of folks out there grew up with The Masters of the Universe as one of their staple cartoons. And though it was originally conceived as little more than a way to sell some toys, the franchise has taken on a life of its own and continues to adapt and adopt into the present day. The latest attempt at bringing the muscle-bound He-Man back into the limelight involves a second attempt at the big screen. Now, it seems as if Sony Pictures may have their eyes on the guy they wish to play the lead – Kellan Lutz.
According to some Twitter posts by Lutz, he’s been talking with the heads of the film about getting involved with it.
Hey @HeManTheMovie and all MOTU fans,
ITS IN GREAT HANDS! 💪⚔
— Kellan Lutz (@kellanlutz) June 24, 2016
In case you’re unaware of the names he’s shouting out to, McG (yes, that’s the name he goes by…) is the director of the new flick and Mary Viola is the president of his production company, Wonderland Sound & Vision. McG is perhaps best known for his directorial work on films such as Terminator Salvation and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.
So, yeah… Not much to write home about.
Unfortunately for the production, Kellan Lutz is pretty much in the same boat as far as talent goes. He is most recognizable as Emmett Cullen from the Twilight series, but he also played Hercules in the ill-received 2014 The Legend of Hercules. In other words, he’d make a pretty suitable He-Man if Sony is looking to emulate the greatness of Dolph Lundgren’s performance in the 1987 adaptation of the property.
Together, this team does not bode well for fans who wished to see the new Masters of the Universe movie aim for something higher. But Lutz has enough muscles that he’ll at least conquer the role visually. We’ll just have to turn our heads when the acting parts of his gig pop up.
Then again, “talks” and “meetings” don’t necessarily mean that the deal is sealed. Sony may find someone with even MORE muscles and, if the gods of Eternia are willing, a bit more to brag about in the acting department.
What say the Nerd Readers? Lutz for He-Man? Or is this thing going to go straight down the toilet?
