A new movie trailer and promotional poster for the upcoming DreamWorks Animation flick Trolls has just been released by 20th Century Fox. Be forewarned: this product contains massive amounts of color, glitter, and music! The tunes are to be expected, though, when you have Justin Timberlake voicing the lead troll, Branch. Timberlake’s only what, like a nine-time Grammy, four time Emmy Award winner? When you hear who else is in the vocal cast, signs of a hit movie soundtrack will be unmistakable. In addition to Timberlake, who will also be serving as executive music producer as well as preforming songs for the soundtrack, Academy and Tony Award nominee Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect, Up in the Air) voices the female lead troll: Princess Poppy. Other musicians peppering the cast include Gwen Stefani (The Aviator) as DJ Suki, Swedish electropop duo Icona Pop (Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo) as the Fashionistas, and The Late Late Show host James Corden (who proved to have quite the set of pipes in Into the Woods) as Biggie.
The rest of the trolls are voiced by actors and actresses apt to tickle our funny bones; such as comedian Russell Brand (Get Him to the Greek) as Creek, YouTube personalities GloZell Green and Meg DeAngelis as Grandma Rosiepuff and Moxie, respectively, Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory) as Guy Diamond, and comedian Ron Funches (Undateable) as Cooper.
Trolls was directed by Mike Mitchell, co-directed by Walt Dohrn, and produced by Gina Shay; all Shrek Forever After alumni. Here’s how 20th Century Fox summarized the film:
From the creators of Shrek comes the most smart, funny, irreverent animated comedy of the year, DreamWorks’ Trolls. This holiday season, enter a colorful, wondrous world populated by hilariously unforgettable characters and discover the story of the overly optimistic Trolls, with a constant song on their lips, and the comically pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have trolls in their stomach. Featuring original music from Justin Timberlake, and soon-to-be classic mash-ups of songs from other popular artists, the film stars the voice talents of Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Russell Brand, James Corden, Kunal Nayyar, Ron Funches, Icona Pop, Gwen Stefani, and many more. DreamWorks’ TROLLS is a fresh, broad comedy filled with music, heart and hair-raising adventures. In November of 2016, nothing can prepare you for our new Troll world.
Trolls is set for a holiday release of November 4, 2016.
