Remember when Tom Hiddleston crashed the 2013 San Diego Comic Con and the Thor: The Dark World panel as Loki? That was awesome. Interesting that production is currently underway on the next Thor film, which will see the actor return to his famous role, but for those hoping for a reprise you maybe disappointed because Hiddleston will be on the left coast for new business. Yes, when Hiddleston arrives for this year’s SDCC, it’s doubtful that he’ll appear dressed as the Marvel Studios villain, but the good news for fans is that you now know he’s coming, and he’s coming to promote the upcoming franchise jump-starter Kong: Skull Island.
When Hiddleston enters Hall H this year it will be with the cast and crew of Skull Island. Confirmed members of the cast also appearing include John Goodman, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly and Hiddleston’s fellow MCU cohort Samuel L. Jackson. Toby Kebbell, Corey Hawkins and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts are still possibles, but if you’re going to get just five people from Skull Island then Goodman, Larson, Reilly, Jackson and Hiddleston are probably the five you want. And with a release date of March 10, 2017 pending, look for Kong: Skull Island to be one of the movers and shakers at this year’s con.
Kong: Skull Island will be a “reconception of the mythology,” as Hiddleston called it in a previous interview. Set in the 1970s, it will see a group of soldiers and explorers travel to the titular island led by former SAS Captain James Conrad (Hiddleston) where they encounter an all-new Kong and a large cast of assorted and dangerous beasties. The aim of producers Legendary Pictures is create a monsters universe that will lead to the big screen face-off of Kong and Godzilla in 2020.
Meanwhile, San Diego Comic Con is scheduled to being on July 20.
