One of the most unexpectedly enjoyable films of 2014 was the tongue in cheek spy movie Kingsman: The Secret Service. The film poked fun at nearly every old school spy movie while simultaneously mimicking and embracing the familiar feel of those movies. With a character body count that would make George R.R. Martin jealous the film saw a surprising number of the top billed cast meet untimely and exceptionally messy ends. Since then there have been rumors that at least one of these characters might not be as dead as originally thought. Spoilers for Kingsman: The Secret Service ahead.
Of all the character deaths, including Samuel L. Jackson‘s Valentine (but he was the bad guy) the most notable was Colin Firth‘s character Harry Hart whose death halfway through the movie was nothing less than shocking to most of the audience. There have been a number of rumors and theories that Harry somehow managed to survive a shot to the face. Theories that he faked his own death or might have spent that time in a coma have run the course. Adding to the rumors was a teaser poster featuring Harry’s signature glasses over the text “Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.” And now it seems as though there is further confirmation of Harry’s return courtesy of Kingsman new comer, Pedro Pascal (who fans should remember from Game of Thrones) and Instagram.
Pedro posted this picture of him standing behind Colin Firth in full Harry costume. This leaves little doubt as to Harry being slightly less than dead, but the how and why are as yet unknown. Harry’s death in the first film served as the catalyst to push Targon Egerton‘s character, Gary Unwin to be the spy he didn’t think he could be and save the world from the villain Valentine. If Harry has truly returned from the dead then what does that mean for Eggsy?
