The Magnificent Seven (1960) is an iconic western, based on an iconic Japanese samurai film Seven Samurai (1954) by the legendary director Akira Kurosawa. There’s been plenty of remakes over the years since with this Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt team-up being the latest. They are joined by a strong supporting cast that includes Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Haley Bennett, and Peter Sarsgaard. That’s not really anything new in the history of The Magnificent Seven, the original was a stacked cast too. Aside from the cast this remake has a strong director, Antoine Fuqua who’s brought you some great movies including Training Day, which got Denzel an Oscar, Shooter, and The Equalizer.
With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.
