A little more than a month back, Telltale Games (The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us) announced that they were working on yet another narrative-driven adventure game series based on the dark streets of Gotham in BATMAN—The Telltale Series, and that it would be released sometime after Minecraft: Story Mode and Game of Thrones. Now we finally have our first look at the game, and it looks like Telltale is set to wow players with their signature style once again as we take on their spin of the Dark Knight.
Not only does the trailer reveal the visual style of the game, but it also reveals the title of the first episode in the episodic game series: Realm of Shadows. This hints that what’s shown to us may in fact be content from only the first episode and not the whole series (this is similar to how their take on Back to the Future was handled). Telltale goes on to give us their synopsis below:
“Enter the fractured psyche of Bruce Wayne and discover the powerful and far-reaching consequences of your choices as the Dark Knight. In this gritty and violent new story from the award-winning creators of The Walking Dead – A Telltale Games Series, you’ll make discoveries that will shatter Bruce Wayne’s world, and the already fragile stability of a corrupt Gotham City.”
What we can expect, from at least the beginning, is Bruce Wayne helping his old pal Harvey Dent (pre-Two Face) in his campaign bid for district attorney of Gotham City, while also trying to ward off the Falcone crime family from tainting the campaign with the lure of money and the buying of unsanctimonious privileges should Harvey accept their deal. Batman will have to dissuade Carmine and his goons the best way he knows how: with his Bat-fist.
The first episode of the series will be released on August 2nd, and will be available on Smart Devices, PCs & Macs, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox ONE.
