It all started with Daredevil. Then came Jessica Jones. In a month, Luke Cage will be premiering with his best bud, Iron Fist, set to debut in 2017. It’s an probably an understatement to say that the Marvel Television panel tonight at San Diego Comic Con was pretty awesome. Fans got to see the teaser trailer for Luke Cage. It was followed up by a first look at Finn Jones as Iron Fist. But it was all a build up to the big reveal of the night, a teaser for The Defenders.

When the announcement for Daredevil for Netflix was made, it was already known at the other three heroes would follow suit eventually culminating to The Defenders. That was in 2013. Fast forward to present time and it’s hard to believe that it’s finally here. Albeit a teaser, but the fact that it’s within arms reach is really exciting. Take a look at the teaser which was revealed at Comic Con earlier this evening.

At first glance, there isn’t much to go off of, but it’s all there – in pieces. On a deeper level, the teaser really says a lot about the heroes who will unite to form the Defenders. In the background, towards the end of the teaser is the voice of Stick (Scott Glenn). He says, “You think the four of your can save New York? You can’t even save yourselves.” It’s a statement that really resonates because of how true it is. They are all broken in some way. And in order to achieve something as great as saving a city like New York they have to be able to save themselves which, for some people, is harder than saving a whole city. It’s going to be really interesting to see how this rag-tag team can come together, overcome their issues, and become the heroes they are destined to be.

The Defenders is scheduled to debut in 2017. With Daredevil having premiered earlier this year in the spring, Luke Cage set to debut on September 30th, Iron Fist set to debut in 2017 – a pattern can be seen emerging. It could be a good guess to say that Iron Fist may debut in the late spring of 2017 with The Defenders following up in the fall of 2017.
