The expansive cast of Marvel Studios and Sony‘s Spider-Man: Homecoming has been known for some time, but their exact roles have been left to the realm of mystery and conjecture… Until now! A tweet has lent some insight into who might be playing who in the Spider-Man movie, their relation to comic book counterparts of the same name, and even their connection to the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe. As revealed yesterday, we know that Zendaya is portraying Mary Jane Watson but what other revelations await fans when the amazing wall-crawler returns to the big screen in his next solo adventure next summer.
The Twitter feed Atlanta Filming got it’s hands on a cast list for the film and it confirms a lot of what was already suspected. Yes, Tony Revolori is playing Flash Thompson, Laura Harrier will be Liz Allan and Jacob Batalon will be portraying Ned Leeds. Along with that Angourie Rice will be playing a character named Betty Brandt, which sounds a lot like Betty Brant, the sometimes love interest of Peter Parker and assistant to Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson. Elizabeth Banks played Betty in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies, and while the character in Homecoming is not confirmed to be that Betty Brant, really, who else could it be?
In other who’s who news, Bokeem Woodbine will be playing Herman Schultz, AKA: the Shocker, the recently revealed secondary villain to the Vulture, who is rumored to be played by Michael Keaton. Since we’re talking about characters we’re all ready familiar with, Kenneth Choi will be portraying Principal Morita, thus implying that he’s playing the descendant of his Captain America: The First Avenger character Howling Commando Jim Morita. As previously revealed, Marisa Tomei will appear as Aunt May, Robert Downey Jr. will play Iron Man Tony Stark, and Michael Chernus will appear as The Tinkerer.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will be in theaters everywhere next summer.
